Hey all, the other day I was in my local used CD store, and saw a copy of Ohio. Of course, I was enraged that someone would have the gumption to sell their copy, but I gave them the benifit of the doubt. Maybe they needed the money to keep from starving to death or something.
Anyway, I looked at this copy and it had some blabber on the back about copy protection, in other words you can't rip any tracks to MP3 or mixed CDs. I looked at my own copy, and it does not have this warning. Is this something the label added in a second printing?

I didn't notice that on any of my (3) copies... I'll have to check them when I get home!
I can confirm that the CDs without this notice _ARE_ rippable.

I have a preordered copy of Ohio, and on the inside of the back case insert it says something along the lines of "please respect that the copyright doesn't belong to you," etc. I was able to record the music to my computer and have listened to it that way many times. I didn't get the impression they were saying it was protected from being copied, just that they hoped you wouldn't copy it and pass it off to others.

There are three versions of El Ohio CD set:
The first had no booklet, and the CDs are white-ish and not green in tone - this is the original promo set. The back of the case has a more generic looking songlist.
The second was another promo with the regular art and book, but the back of the CD case had a different message on it, about the copy protection. This isn't the mesage on the INSIDE of the book on the regular version.
And then the third is the common one, sent by Paste and at retailers everywhere.

My copy is copyable/rippable. I imagine I have the normal release.
And so this thread will now trigger a rant...
I listen to music frequently in the car. Long trips or runs to the store, it doesn't matter. I like to listen to music while I drive. The thing is that I don't take good care of CDs in the car. A disc comes out of the CD player, and more often than not, it goes on the floor and not back in a case. As a result, I have destroyed many a CD in the car. So my new rule is to only have copies in the car. No originals. When they get scratched (and they often do) I just make a fresh copy. In my understanding, this falls under the 'fair use' rules. This policy works so well for me that I do not buy 'protected' music. I believe in respecting the copyright, but I expect the the music companies to respect my fair use rights.
End rant.
