Trudes
Sep 17 2003, 02:28 PM

I was born on June 3rd 1946. Yes, that makes me forty-seventeen.
It really feels strange to be the oldest fan here, but I am the oldest fan on the Cowboy Junkies message board, too, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
I would say we are as old as we feel and I feel like 21.
I am an RN in semi-retirement as I gave up my job in the operating room to stay home and care for my Mom who is a chipper 93 years old. It's a great job as she really needs very little from me but some assistance and companionship. I have the best job in the world.
I am joined at the hip to my computer and it gets me through the day. (I am rather restricted for getting out to do things outside my home but my Mom and I do occasionally go shopping, take walks with the wheelchair or visit friends)
I live in Louisville, Colorado, just SE of Boulder with Mom and Lenny...my soulmate who is a wonderful man, though still has not been enlightened by OTR. (I've tried).
I enjoy movies, music, TV, Harry Potter, bike rides (in the evenings), walking, cats, and Southwest gardens. My hobby is years past was dancing, most specifically modern dance, African and World dance and jazz....some ballet. Someday I will pursue my dance hobby again.
In the meantime, I am enjoying my obsession with great music and fanship of great bands...OTR has made a wonderful impression on me. I first heard them about 11/2 years ago and my love of their music has only grown deeper.
Looking forward to my first live show in Oct. Enough?

Noticing how often you have built your sky-high post count by giving a warm welcome to all who come or speaking an encouraging word, I went back to your bio and noted no responses. I could have put this kudo in the "with my compliments" thread, but I wanted to pull one of the archaeoposts into the present and say, "What a nice welcomer!!"

Oh my goodness. Yes, absolutely. I'm so glad you're a part of this group. You've been so welcoming to everyone including me.
And I think that's awesome that you're hanging out with your mom. So many people duck out of that. I really respect you for doing that.

Trudes, my mama's an RN as well (still full-time); my 86-year-old grandmother moved in with us about three years ago. Like your mom, she doesn't need much care, but it can still be a bit restricting because my mom can't always do as many things as she would like. I have such respect for anyone willing to take care of a relative instead of putting them in a nursing home. I understand that there are some people who have legitimate reasons for doing so (lack of time, the relative's medical condition, etc.), but some are simply not willing to make sacrifices of their own time and energy in order to provide basic assistance. I'm even more impressed with you now than I was before.
And you still find time to send love to every apple in the Orchard. Amazing.

Trudes- I hadn't read your bio until now. I thought you were swell before, but now I also admire you. Seriously.

Trudes, you're awesome...I just read the bio and that, combined with the gracious posts you've giving to newcomers like me as well as regulars, makes you a top-notch person in my book.
Can I just add that I haven't run across one negative poster here yet? These are the friendliest and most gracious forums I've been a part of.

I am so very pleased that Trudes is part of this little online Orchard. She's been there since the forums were on my site, and was as cheerful and nice there as she is here.
I'm really excited to meet Trudes (and the rest of the gang) at the Canal Street Meet-n-Greet. Oh yeah, I hear there's a show that night too... "Over the something"...
Main attraction for me on Sunday May 2nd? Putting faces to these folks that have come through the rickety wooden gate to wander the Orchard!
you are my role model.

Let's see, if I must post number 1000 somewhere, where should I post it?
What thread is most significant for post number 1000?
Here's one for the high priestess of the orchard!

Bill,
Thanks darlin' for the honor.
But, in case you haven't noticed, I have dropped to the number three top poster of all time.
The throne is occupied by a King now.
King Walrus.
Long Live the Queen.
Let them eat cake.

Ah, but, Trudes, some of us have gone upward with the sparrows, picking up bits of flotsam to build our crude abodes, even lowering ourselves to multiple posts in word association. You, dear, have built a home of sturdier stuff and remain our gentle priestess.

Hey, I am coming up on your left....look out. I quickly matured for my age! Only problem,
after-21 my mature gene was stunted! I am 40. I was the oldest person at a Blink 182
concert!

HappyScout,
I haven't grown all the way up yet.
In fact, I hope I never do.
I have gotten over the fact that my interests in music (for instance) don't always conform to my stereotypical age group.
I can't help it...
I know what I like and if Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, Eminem, Over the Rhine or Enigma are among my favorites....so be it.
Thanks for your note...I hope we meet in person some day.
