July 11th was a mentally-handicapingly good day for releases... The Thom Yorke's got wicked cool packaging. And the Kaada, well, it'll be a good stroll down smooth-electronica lane. And the Cut Chemist, well... he's the MAN on the 'tables!! Tomorrow's gonna be a good day at work... for music at least...

Cut Chemist - The Audience's Listening

Kaada - Music For Moviebikers

Thom Yorke - The Eraser

Morgan Spurlock's - 30 Days (Season 1)

Pink Floyd - Pulse Live

got that one today and also this one

KLEE- Honeysuckle

This is a Cardigans/Ivy sound with maybe even a slight twist of New Order thrown in for good measure.
They are German and only a few songs are in English, most are in German,
but a very nice sound to it.

got a few things-

Syd Matters- self titled- listened to snippets of this at a Borders store, liked what I heard, so bought it
On the front says-'bridging the gap between Radiohead, Nick Drake and Robert Wyatt' so worth the try.
I'll let you know.

Also the warm up band for the Cowboy Junkies-
The Wandering Sons- Darken Your Door EP- liked some of the stuff they did at the CJ show Sat.

and the Cowboy Junkies DVD- long journey home as well as
their CD 'In the Time Before Llamas'

"the wandering sons" - darken your door (ep)

these guys opened for cowboy junkies saturday night. i enjoyed their set, so i bought their ep. nice mellow, folkish/alt countryish sound. couple of listens, i am really enjoying this disc, nice sound imho.

give them at listen @ The Wandering Sons [My Space} if you are so inclined.

Bruce Cockburn's new cd, Life Short Call Now, arrived in the mail today from Best Buy and it is fantastic, as usual. It's not as grim as 2003's You've Never Seen Everything. I spent last year waffling back and forth about whether or not to pick up Speechless, so I never ended up getting it. I love his guitar playing, but I really think I'd miss his singing because he has such a unique voice. Opinions, anyone?

I just got back from Barnes and Noble, and I got Otis Redding's Greatest Hits. <3
Also, on Wednesday, I got the Black Stone Cherry CD, and let me tell you, AMAZING. biggrin.gif

Everyone should own a copy of this. Or at least something of his...what a voice. (and underrated as a songwriter too, IMO)

This morning I bought welcome to the cruel world by ben harper. So far I love it. A few days ago I bought The New Black by strapping young lad. I know not many of you are metal fans, but for those of you who are, it's good stuff. It's cool becuase it's all metally but then they add jazz flute and chromatics and all this crazy stuff in.

Yeah, I saw Devin's solo band open up for Symphony X about 3 years ago...the music was okay but I couldn't really get past the vocals.

But like, between songs he'd noodle around on his guitar, and I was like "whoa, this guy can play." But he didnt do any of that cool guitar stuff during his actual songs...don't know why. :\

Muse - Black Holes and Revelations.

Bit of a let down this one so far. The last album was so good. This is a bit more of the same and some half hearted tries at new directions. Not very convincing. Lot's of Queen-like vocal harmonies if that's your thing...

I don't know what it is, its a 5-songer, not a 6-song (my bad), its dated 2000 and says look for the new album Silver Bell due in September. It has Let It Fly (from Living with Ghosts), Tony (from Flaming Red), Silver Bell, Standing, and a live version of Mary recorded live at the Mint in LA.
Never had seen it before. And it was only 3.95.
Anyway, it looks like this:

Brookd
dude, I gotta think that's some kind of collector's item.
was that a used bin find?
kent
yeah, it was a used bin find.
the name Patty Griffin just jumped out at me, I had never seen that cover before, so i looked at it to see if it was something new or what, ......and it didn't leave my hands after that.
I'm guessing its some kind of Patty Griffin sampler that A&M records put out to promote her at that time, pre-Silver Bell release

It's likely just some promotional thing sent out in the months before Silver Bell was supposed to have been released. Obviously the record company did intend at one point to go ahead with a release before screwing everything up. That's a really cool find. smile.gif

Les Yeux Noirs -- Live. It's the first of my recent Amazon order to arrive. I also ordered expanded editions of two old faves, The Posies' first one, Failure, and The Lilac Time's Paradise Circus, and a recent reissue of a disc by a long lost 60's power pop band that's new to me, called Shredder by The Wackers.

Charlie Sexton/Shannon McNally- Southside Sessions

wow, this sounds interesting. how is it?!?!?!

i like what i hear so far, has a raw feel to it
here's a review of it from allmusic

QUOTE
Southside Sessions is a raw, loose, seven-cut EP that places two of Austin's finest talents in collaboration. Charlie Sexton has been on the scene for decades as a songwriter, guitar hero, and producer. He spent three years with Bob Dylan's band on the Endless Tour before returning to Austin to be a family man and work on his own music. Shannon McNally is a talented singer/songwriter who has issued a couple of brilliant solo albums and who has been kicking around Austin for a while now, making a well-deserved name for herself as a performer as well as a singer/songwriter. Of the seven cuts here, Sexton wrote or co-wrote (the latter with enigmatic songwriter Tonio K.) four and McNally one, and there are also covers of Townes Van Zandt's "No Place to Fall" and Jesse Winchester's "Biloxi." Sexton produced the set, and his take on what this is supposed to be is spot-on. The relaxed feel of these performances is attributable at least in part to the fact that, other than the opening "Nothing Mysterious" and "Biloxi," there are no drums. The first cut, with its blend of acoustic guitars and muffled, shuffling drums, feels like an outtake from the Band's Music from Big Pink with Delaney & Bonnie on vocals. That doesn't mean it's derivative. Not at all. Instead, its impassioned, in-the-pocket singing, strolling along with the instruments and covering the beat with the right accents, is remarkable. McNally's "Old Cypress Tree" is a devastatingly beautiful desert country love song. There is passion, conviction, and acceptance in its verses and the revelation of truth as it slowly exposes itself to the singer and the listener. Sexton's spare backing vocals only serve to underscore the meaning in the words.

Likewise, Sexton and Tonio K.'s "When We Were Young" gives McNally a chance to express the lyrics — sung over a percussively strummed acoustic guitar and hand percussion — in boldface just hovering a notch above Sexton. It creates shivers for all its loose, good-time feel. The two covers here are back to back. Van Zandt's is pleasurable, but doesn't actually match the emotional truth in the original song. "Biloxi" gets to it; it's lean, and carried by a slightly out-of-tune upright piano. McNally carries the first verse as the acoustic slide guitars enter along with tom-tom drums, and then Sexton's vocal shimmering just behind hers. This is late-night music sung from a place that the daytime cannot address. There is no nostalgia here, just longing. The set closes with two Sexton originals, new versions of songs from his Cruel and Gentle Things album released in 2005. "Burn" is sung by both parties, but the grain in Sexton's voice reveals that he cannot get the muse who inspired the tune out of his system. It's intense, muddy, startling, and devastating in its desperation. "I'd Do the Same for You" is a whispering duet where the voices are accompanied only by a piano. It's a plea for reconciliation, and its gentleness belies the hurt in its lyric. But it expresses hope, particularly when sung by such expressive singers. Southside Sessions is a must for fans of either party. It's the low-key underdog record of 2006, and should be a model for anyone interested in D.I.Y. efforts. Delightful and recommended.

You forgot about researching the used CD stores and planning time and routes to said CD stores in different cities. Hunting through eBay, amazon.com, and half.com every week. Going to yourmusic.com. Getting up at the crack of dawn to make yard sales. Asking friends to keep an eye out for certain albums/artists in different cities. Yeah, music is the drug. Give me another hit!

Yep, I really dig that CD as well...now you gotta get the new one - Move By Yourself. However, be warned, it's not all Jack Johnsonie... In fact it incorporates funk/R&B. The title track lays down a funky little groove remeniscient of early 70's disco, kind of Steely Dan-ish. It makes a great work out song. In other words, it's not an acoustic CD like the first one. Some of this disc has kind of a Josh Rouse - 1972 sound blended with Remy Shand's - The Way I Feel sound only not quite a smooth as either of those CDs. However, the first half of this CD would fit nicely on a compilation with Rouse and Shand. Probably my favorite track is called "Fool." It's a bluesy Steely Dan-ish number! I'm guessing you'll really dig Everytime. It's a nice little love song with some acoustic work and it's only a little over-produced...
