Careful, eBay can become an addiction. Take it from someone who knows allllll too well. But it is really cool all the good stuff you can find on there. Just make sure you do your homework and set a maximum price that you will bid, and stick to it. Don't get sucked up into bidding wars just to win. You can usually get a good idea of what price you should pay by looking at the normal retail price/used price on Amazon.com or Pricegrabber.com, or Half.com. Good luck. Happy bidding!

QUOTE(Jeanne @ Apr 13 2006, 12:56 PM)

I haven't visited this thread in a while, but, yes, Sony is re-issuing these titles, supposedly without the copy protection. The packaging is different, but I haven't stuck any of them into computers. I had to round up all the copies of the 7 or so titles the library owned to exchange them for the new editions, so I have seen them. The old editions have the software noted on the backs, the new ones don't.
I heard that too, but I haven't seen them in stores yet. (at least for the few titles I'm looking for) It's possible that not all stores will return them and just hope they can sell copies to people who don't notice, since it's probably a pain in the arse to return inventory to the record company.
I bought Imogen Heap's
Speak For Yourself for $7.99 (why can't they sell
all CD's at that price? Greedy bastards) and apparently it's one of those "protected" CD's as well (although not marked on the packaging). I really wanted to return it and claim it was "defective" but didn't think that would work.
Naturally, the album was released in the rest of the world months ahead of the U.S. release and so it's extremely easy to download with a few clicks...nice to see their copy protection working so well.
It makes me sad though...I wish I could tell everyone in the world to run out and buy that album, it's so f'ing amazing, but...I've actually told people
not to buy it because of the protection that's installed with the disc.

They are great music stores in Ann Arbor. Worth the trip. Just don't bring your credit card and make sure you only have what you can afford to spend in your pocket. I can't usually escape without laying out some Cheesehead Kent type jack on albums.
Another option is online shopping: Amazon.com and half.com usually have some fairly decent deals. And there is always eBay too.

Hey Steve! I was just about to ask you to back me up on that!
The dude LIVES in A2. he's got time to do both.
for some reason, I really like Wazoo. It has a genuine indie record store feel to it. the used CDs ARE a pain in the ass to "flip" through. but he's usually got a pretty good selection (especially new), with probably the best new prices anywhere, including Best Buy. I usually leave there with something.
but yes, Encore is hands down the BEST used CD store anywhere. the only thing I don't like about that store is knowing that something I'm dying to find is probably buried in that enormous mountain of unfiled CDs on the counter.

Wazoo is upstairs.
Encore is the massive (and messy) used store down by Borders (across the street), on street level.
The downstairs one? I think you're thinking of SchoolKidsRecords underground, which is in the basement of that clothing store (right by Wazoo). they're cool too, but certainly a 3rd choice of the three (plus they're all new).

The smaller one upstairs is Wazoo. Yeah it is a pain to "flip"through the Cd's. But there are some great deals there. I got mint condition DCC versions of "Chet Baker in New York" and "Sonny Rollins and the Contemporary Leaders" for 30 bucks. You can't find those even on eBay for that much in that great of shape.
But yeah Encore Records is the shit. I have to always pare down from the stack of 20 or so CD's I end up having. Plus its nice being around other music lovers/fellow obsessed music collectors. And they play pretty good music too.

No, Wazoo is the one I'm thinking of that I like the best. I am not sure if I can remember Encore now and SchoolKidsRecords is the one downstairs I was thinking of. I am now having vague recollections of Encore but I don't think I've been there in a while or it was just too much to process.

Yeah, I'm actually about 15 minutes out of AA.... but, yeah, your criticism is warranted. Must be the "married with four kids and a job (or used to have a job)" thing getting in the way. You might try seeing if any of the used bookstores have a trading policy. I go to a place where you can do a 2 for 1 paperback trade. Good way to get rid of some books you never read. And at least the used books are cheaper if you buy them.
