A cornucopia of musical goodness from the used CD vaults in Richmond:
Miles Davis-Volume One
Miles Davis-Volume Two
Sun Ra-We Travel The Space Ways/Bad And The Beautiful
Dizzy Gillespie-Gillespiana/Carnegie Hall Concert
Mission of Burma-Signals, Calls, and Marches
You know you have been going to the music store too much when the Information/Reference guy grins at you, taps his finger on his arm vein and says "Come back for another fix?" To which I replied "Music is the drug." Now if I'd only been able to sing falsetto "Music is the drug that will set me free". Bonus points for anyone that can identify that musical reference/paraphrase.

The Smiths - Meat is Murder
The titletrack is bloody difficult to listen to unless you agree with its message, but its a great album.
Mew - And the Glass Handed Kites
I'm not really sure what to make of this one. It has really nice melodies but it is so prog (not only the album title then) its occasionally a bit too much for me. I mean they throw in a 4/4 bar occasionally just to make it more interesting...

It didn't knock my socks off. But I like the White Stripes quite a bit, I like that song (I've not heard anything else from Tegan & Sara), and since it's an EP it was cheap. The rest of the tracks are live performances (mostly from Get Behind Me Satan).
The
review at Pitchfork sums up the EP pretty well and I love this line: "Produced with an impulsive haste that is fast becoming one of the duo's hallmarks, this genial cover sounds singularly unpersuasive, a performance unlikely to challenge anyone's previously held opinions about the Stripes, Tegan and Sara, walking, or ghosts."

Maybe, but I got the self-titled. From what I've heard about her later material, the cool trip-hop influences are completely missing on her later material. I like the few later songs I've heard from her, but they're not on the same level as the stuff on her first album.

Amos Lee, self-titled. Best $13 I've spent in a long, long time. I caught him on Austin City Limits back in Nov. He was the back half of the John Prine installment. Very nice sound. The full-length CD can be had at Starbucks for $13.
