Johnny Met June
(Shelby Lynne)

Got some news today from the radio man
He spoke the words softly and as somber as he can
The world stood still and the sky opened up
made my way to fill up my coffee cup.
Then it occurred to me as the daylight sky shone blue
Today's the day that
Johnny met June.

He waited a while he knew that he would
He was gonna hang around here for as long a he could
The days went by and hours idle passed
He was never sure just how long he would last
But there's not much love in a lonely room
Today's the day that
Johnny met June

Hey my darlin' hey my sweet
I've waited on the day that I knew we would meet.
Hey my sun, hey my moon
Today's the day that
Johnny met June.

Now were starting over it's the place that we are
You look more than pretty underneath all the stars
Love, love is a burning thing
Oh how I still love to hear you sing
And everything we ever heard about heaven is true
Today's the day that Johnny met June
Today's the day that Johnny met June.

Billy Bragg & Wilco-Mermaid Ave.

So far the Tweedy led songs are my faves...though there's one song with Natalie Merchant that's gorgeous.

Ok, track ONE is very a-kicking and it's Bragg with Wilco gang-vocals. Pretty cool.

Hmm. I think I bought these two most recently:

Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever Amen
The Sundays - Reading Writing and Arithmetic
rulerofsubdivision1057
Erin McKeown - We Will Become Like Birds
Andrew Bird and the Mysterious Production of Eggs

Both are excellent.

Celtic Fiddle Festival - "Encore"
Kevin Crawford - "In Good Company"

Portishead - Dummy
Muse - Showbiz

I just realized that Muse aren't that big in the US. Well if you feel Coldplay are a bit boring but basicly like british rock you need to check them out, especially the third album, Absolution. They rock hard, but are still very melodic and have a very distinct sound (lots of piano, but used in a very original way, IMO).

My CD Baby order from yesterday:

CHRIS ARDUSER: the celebrity motorcade
GEORGE CUNNINGHAM: stumblingham
MARTA GOMEZ: solo es vivir

The first two are from Cincinnati, and the third is a Colombian woman I saw perform at the Cityfolk festival downtown last weekend.

ps. to Patrik, I like Muse's Absolution (and better than Coldplay, too.).

i took that out from the library a few weeks ago and have been enjoying it immensely. the first song is really great. and i love jeff tweedy's voice very, very much.

but as for the reason i came in here today (both used! the special trip to annapolis was worth it!):

rilo kiley, more adventurous
bob dylan, greatest hits vol. 1 -- i realize i know more of his songs sung by others, not him. and his autobiography makes me want to know more.

If you want another place to go and spend all your hard earned $$$ on CD's, try Plan 9 Records in the Careytown neighborhood of Richmond. Its easy to suddenly find yourself with an arm full of CD's and realize you haven't gone through half of the store yet. The other cool thing about the Careytown Plan 9 is that it is one of the few non-chain/indie owned record stores, so its got a real cool vibe to it. Its all about the music. And no I"m not an owner or employee of Plan 9, I just drop way way way way too much money at their stores. We have two of them here in Charlottesville alone. So many CD's, so little money....

Rob Thomas ...Something to be

I love Paste magazine but that reviewer that gave this a one-star rating was way, way off. This album is really tight. He said it didn't sound like a Matchbox album. I think it sounds exactly like a Matchbox album. He said the best song was the Mellencamp-like "Streetcorner Symphony", which doesn't sound anything like Mellencamp (I'm from Indiana - I know) and that's the worst song on the album - about the only bad one on the whole disc.

Before that I bought Maria Mckee - Peddlin' Dreams. It's okay.

Just bought two really good live CD's by one of the leaders of the free jazz movement in the late 50's and early 60's, Eric Dolphy-Live in Europe Vols 1,3. Never thought I"d like jazz flute and clarinet, but he makes it work. Party on.

Showbiz - Muse (this is interesting Brit Pop) I definitely need to check out more of this band's music

Duality - RA (so far, I've only listened to it in the store, but at $8.99 it was worth a spin or two

i took advantage of the freak occurrence of my wireless working last night and made my first itunes purchases: ben lee's "awake is the new sleep" (a pop gem - it makes me so happy!) and rufus wainwright's "want two". i also bought two individual songs, and earlier in the day purchased damien rice's "o" -- i think that was the cd that made my wireless work. just a hunch.

son volt - "wide swing tremelo" (love it)

nickle creek - "why should the fire die" (getting into it, took a few listens. but it's growing on me)
