By EITS double album you mean the double vinyl? It appears all of the CDs are single CDs...
DMST was ordered via Borders.com (ie- Amazon). We'll see. The DMST show with Holy Fuck isn't until April 1st in Columbus.

Well, the rumor is still going that they're going to be remastered and re-released sometime this year. I've been slowly trading all my old Beatles discs on lala under the assumption this is going to happen. Remastered Beatles discs would be a "I'm gonna stop eating for a month to buy this" purchase.

I love when things like this happen. The other night in chat I was wishing I had some of my older Sarah music on CD. Picked up these two at Laser's Edge Compact Discs in Birmingham, today:
Blackjack David - Dave Alvin (1998) I started listening to Dave Alvin, a couple years ago, and really dig him a lot. If you're an "Americana (whatever that is?)" fan and have never heard Dave Alvin, you really should. This is the last of his back catalog that I've been looking for and Laser's Edge had a new copy of it.
Armchair Apocrypha - Andrew Bird (just released) I realize that at least some folks saw Andrew Bird open for OtR, two years ago, and weren't too impressed with him, but we were really knocked out by his creativity and innovative arrangements. Well, for those of you who fell into the former category, give his new cd a try. It's got all the hallmarks of The Mysterious Production of Eggs, but it's considerably more accessible and it rocks!

This isn't exactly a "latest CD purchase" but rather a "latest CD I finally opened".
I offer this little anecdote mostly for Posty's and Yojimbo's amusement:
about 5 years ago I dove into the deep end of classical music (my latest discovery and fixation at the time), buying probably a hundred CDs or so within a 6-month period, many from a historic and much-loved classical music store that was going under (Harmony House Classical on Woodward) having a going under sale. needless to say (for those of you who know me), a good chunk of those CDs remained in shrinkwrap on my shelves for years. I listened to many, and came to an almost immediate love of classical music at the time and the years since, but of course classical takes some serious listening dedication, so it's taken me longer to work through my classical selection than it would to get through, say, some pop purchases.
so, anyway, yesterday I open my Mahler Duo CD of Symphony #9 (by Haitink), 5 years after I bought it, 4 years after the store I bought it from had closed it's doors for good, pulled the shrinkwrap right off, struggled a bit to break open the sticky seal at the top without cracking the case, and when I finally get inside... no CD! I stood there holding the case in my hand for a minute just staring at the empty tray trying to process what I was seeing. I even rubbed the white plastic it was supposed to be on just to somehow make sure it wasn't really there. all this time I thought I owned Mahler's 9th symphony and it was waiting there on my shelf for just the right moment to grab me, and when that moment came, it turned out to be an illusion. The second CD was there, underneath (which somehow strikes me as the harder of the 2 CDs to get in the case - if they could get that tricky bugger in there, surely the main cd shouldn't be a problem), but that ain't symphony #9, that's just classical singing, and I'm still not sure I'm ready for that yet. got so irritated it almost made me want to open every single one of my shrinkwrapped CDs just to make sure I owned everything I thought I owned (but I resisted that urge of momentary insanity)...
You'd think this would be a more common occurance actually, but after having opened over 3,000 CDs in my life thus far, I do believe this is the first MIA I've experienced. and I have only once come upon the wrong CD in the case.
fortunately I was able to find the same recording at the library last night, and so I simply "rectified the situation" with the help of my computer...
«°¤°»
Mar 22 2007, 05:22 AM
Ha!

I've had an MIA once before... but never on one that I waited to open for 5 years...
kent
Mar 22 2007, 01:56 PM
That's sooo funny Brook. I've never had that happen, but once I got a double CD that had 2 of the first discs in it.
Now get busy and get those other shrink wrapped ones opened, will ya!
Especially if you're on a 5-year backlog.

it's a very short album. its standard Rosie fare, so if you like her previous work you will like this one.
Sufjan Stevens and Denison Witmer help her out an appear on this album, and there are a couple fo songs
where you can hear Sufjans influence. a quiet album, good for late night, or a day like today, gray and rainy.

While technically these shouldn't be included for three reasons that go against the thread's subject... here are some albums that I
1) downloaded,
2) for free (
legally)
3) 2-3 weeks ago.
Explosions in the Sky -
The Rescue -EP- (
~33 mins)

Very similar to other
EitS albums... moving, dark, ambient post-rock brilliance... like a more subdued
Mogwai, perhaps.
http://www.explosionsinthesky.com/http://www.explosionsinthesky.com/the_rescue.html (the direct page for the free download)
http://www.myspace.com/explosionsintheskybandInlets -
Vestibule -EP- (
~31 mins)
Inlets are a band I stumbled on at Tonic NYC when I was out there for work. It's multi-instrumentalist Sebatian Krueger who played on the upcoming
My Brightest Diamond record (
A Thousand Shark's Teeth). His sound is not unlike that of
Sufjan Stevens... horns, strings, toy piano, banjo in spots, and a nice falsetto.
http://www.inletsmusic.com/http://www.luvsound.org/release/luv012/ (the direct page for the free download)
http://www.myspace.com/inletsGood stuff...
for free. You can't beat that with a stick...
unless you happen to have a stick and start beating your iPod with it.
But that'd be dumb.

Couldn't find a Vinyl Thread, so I posted this here...... If one exists, let me know!
This place I played at Thursday is called the Modern Exchange. It sells vintage clothing and other stuff including old vinyl. I'd been wanting to pick some up, so, here goes....
Donovan -
The Hurdy Gurdy Man (1968... in great, playable condition)
Rolling Stones -
Some Girls (one of the recalled versions with Lucille Ball on it... how cool!)
Burl Ives -
Burl Ives (this one is from the 60's and in rough shape, but I'm hoping I can save it. I spent countless hours listening to this man and his music as a kid)
Duane Allman -
The Best of Duane Allman (cool cover shot of Duane and a pic of him fishing on the back, I'd never see this LP before, but it's got some great stuff on it)
The Eagles -
Hotel California (to replace my lost LP... this one is mint, complete with the original poster that was included)
Bob Dylan -
Slow Train Coming (released August 1979, great lp in great condition)
The Beatles -
A Hard Day's Night (American Release, June 1964)
Best part? Got it all for $30.

Went to the newer thrift shop yesterday, and bought 2 CD's for the lst time, as their CD's are generally children's software and not much else. I got:
Jonatha Brooke - Live - $2.95
Tori Amos - Under the Pink - $2.95
I also got a scrubs set (shirt and pants, wine color) which is an outfit for work for me, the cost of the set - $2.95
When I got to the checkout, I put the CD's on the counter and then picked up the scrubs set on its hanger, and I saw that underneith it was a crisp $20 bill folded in half. It must have fallen out of the pocket! So, I wound up, after sales tax, with 2 CD's worth of new music for me and a work outfit, plus $11.75.
