I ended up with both. Not on purpose, I ordered the back porch version from Amazon (and an extra copy for my brother) and then decided to go OTR crazy and grab all their releases (including the independent GDBD) on a special deal they had through the OTR web site (all releases for $70 or something like that). Oh well, no complaints, can have one in the car for me and one for my wife in her car

I have the original version. I don't think that I've ever heard that Virgin/Backporch release of the GDBD album.
hmmm. . .Perhaps I should check that out.

My sister has the indie release and I have the BackPorch release. This arrangement worked much better when we lived in the same house. Ah, well. Just a few months more....

My first order from otr.com after d/l'ing the songs in the mp3 attic was GDBD Backporch release and Till We Have Faces. Once I had all their cd's I started getting more obssessive for getting every song I could and that's when I ordered GDBD Independent cause I couldn't wait any longer to hear A Gospel Number and the original recording of Jack's Valentine.

It's a sad ol' world.. when you're squeaking on squeak.. -- "dog song", Linford & Karin, Canal St. Tavern, 5.1.04.
Small hijack: I thought it was "It's a sad ol' world... when your squeaky won't squeak."
Then again, I don't always hear OTR's lyrics correctly.

THANK YOU JEANNE! I knew it didn't look right. I'm too young to have hearing issues. Oi.

I wish I had both, but alas, I am poor. In fact, there are even a couple other OTR's I have not been able to afford yet. Ironicly, I did not have the twenty five dollars during last month's special, which would have taken care of my little problem.

Both. I'm a completist freak as well... Gotta have 'em all. I try to get everything they've been on... I even have the hard-to-find Nicholas Giaconia CD... they're not even credited, but it's them all right.

oops i read/voted wrong. i own both copies, but the first one is my favorite. but only because i'm partial to "jack's valentine". but i had to get the second one, too, because "its never quite as it seems" is such a good song! no regrets owning both!

I have
a Servant CDR from 1979, but it's the one with Doug Pinnick of King's X on vocals... the thread
over here was me trying to get clarification... but the "authoritative post" stated two opposite things.
clarification, anyone?

On the 2000 reissue, I miss "Jack's Valentine." But I sincerely don't miss "A Gospel Number." Ugh...
even when I considered myself a christian, I hated that song.

Don't blame me, blame a Blame Pop®.
Your opinion of my musical tastes already flew out the window when I hated that boring Rice
O CD.

The good thing? There's plenty of good music to go around. And OtR have made 100+ better songs than "A Gospel Number."

Is anyone here looking for an original copy of GDBD? I found two copies in a chain store bargain bin the other day. Both are still sealed and have no cut-out marks. I'm not looking to profit, but will pass them along to someone who hasn't been able to find the "Jack's Valentine" version. Post here, and I'll try to remeber to check back in a little while.

My offer to give away the free copies of GDBD is now closed. I was able to give away one copy, and surprised that no one wanted the other. I will use it as a Christmas gift instead. Kevin,I hope you're enjoying your copy!

I'm bummed I missed this. I loaned GDBD to a friend years ago and she lost it. I don't even have a copy now. Heh.
Next time!
