This is a very, very nice album.
I may like it the best of all of Linford's solo work....at the moment....
(With the exception of 'OK, As Long As.....' from IDTTNNTBN, and 'Shake it Off' from GGS!!.... wink.gif )
I feel like I'm in Linford's living room listening to him play just for me.

On UR:
My favorites are:
We Dream an Ocean in Ohio...so beautiful
Her Black Fedora Grin (Is this a spinnet layered with piano?)
On the Train Home....I breath along with this
Screen Door Music (Almost up there with We Dream)

My least favorite is Winter Wedding.....(Accordian?)

The album photography from Linford's family collection is priceless and I adore Linford's thank you to Karin....I want to weep tears of joy.
So happy to have this.

We got our copy when Linford was up here a couple weeks back attending the Festival of Faith in Writing with us at Calvin College. So beautiful...sigh...

None of the pictures are actually of OUR family...someone's, but not ours...he likes to collect funky old photos from rummage sales and antique shops! [Most of the Detweilers of that era were Amish so I don't think they'd be smoking or showing that much skin...or getting their picture taken for that matter! Which is sad!] They are super fun though...they seem very unique for that era to be action shots and smiling shots when most you find are posed and very somber.

This is very much like sitting in their living room...a few years back we had the Detweiler Christmas at the Grey Ghost and Linford would sit down at the piano and smile and play while the children ran around and everyone sat and chatted. It sounded just like this album...glad he's sharing that joy with the world! biggrin.gif [And glad you're enjoying it, Trudes!]

Ha ha ha...
Thanks, Molly, for setting me straight about that.
I was gonna look for family resemblances.
Actually, that coxswain kinda looks like a Detweiler, no? wink.gif

Okay I'm only about halfway through listening to the album the first time but "We Dream an Ocean in Ohio" was so gorgeous. Heart-wrenchingly pretty. I'm already a little weepy-sentimental today, but this cd is lovely background music for this mood at least.

I've been listening to it on and off since I boarded the plane Tuesday morning. I love it. So much I think I might have to say it's my favorite of Linford's solo works. I'm not good with the titles yet, but the one where the thunder and rain and traffic is in the background really comforts me. And I really like the accordian song. It's a a beautiful cd. Thank you for sharing, Linford.

My favorites right now are "Please, Let’s Try Again" & "We Dream An Ocean in Ohio." (I had to look up the titles myself. I just know they're tracks 9 & 4. wink.gif )

I was wondering what that was, too! It almost sounds like hammered dulcimer to me.

Loving this album so far. Linford's solo work is such a wonderful contrast to some of the more frentic Over the Rhine material.

Bu, bu, but...it says right in the booklet, Photographs courtesy of The Detweiler Archive. So that's what he calls his collection, The Archive? I kinda feel mislead...

But I love the record. Last night I was writing with it on continuous play. Like most of y'all, I like the Dream an Ocean track a lot. That is so soothing. The rain, the traffic, the distinct sound of a bus. Very nice.

OK. I have to buy this CD and soon! What am I waiting for?

Aw...sorry, Anna. I shouldn't have opened my big mouth and destroyed the mystique!

Actually, even if he wanted to use old family photos there wouldn't be much to be had. Since his Dad was Amish there aren't any early photos of his family...which is sad to me. It would be really special to see photos of his life then. I can actually count on two hands the number of childhood pictures that I've seen of Myron. They just didn't take many. sad.gif

Wandering around overtherhine.com, I happened upon this writing about Linford's album 'Unspoken Requests'.
This is not written in my album's booklet.
I thought it very interesting reading. Is this written in anyone else's CD booklet?

Those notes are on Pastemusic as well, I beleive. Not in my cd booklet though. I think its a lovely idea though. Inspired me to start playing improvised violin as a form of prayer. It feels as though it works.

I love all Linford's solo stuff, but this is definately my favorite of the 3. So. Damn. Soothing. Thank you, Linford.

Also, I surprised a friend with a copy Friday and he called me at home that night to thank me and let me know that he really enjoyed it. Reminded him of another pianist he really likes (name escapes me right now). Also, when I asked if he liked that "acordian song" he said "That's a pump organ, not an acordian." He'd listened straight through just once and said he'd let me know after he'd listened several more times but that he was pretty sure. Cool tidbit if he's right.

Linford? Any comment on that?
