My poor little schedule looks very small compared to the rest of you...I'll have to work up to it.
June 12 OTR
June 18 Ben Folds
August 14-15 Phish
September 24 OTR
(Not enough days off at this job...)
WalrusOct9
May 5 2004, 01:06 PM
May 8th - Yes
May 20 - Velvet Revolver
June 24-25 - Over The Rhine
After that, who knows...depends on how many free tickets I can get to Freedom Hill Amphitheater this year. They're having the Indigo Girls, Counting Crows, Boston, and the Moody Blues, all of which I will go to if I can get the tickets.
I really wanted to go see Sarah but I can't afford it...and I don't really know anyone who would go with me to that. Some shows are ok to go to alone but that's something I really wish I could share with someone. *sigh*

right now it's just the following:
Yes this Saturday
Van Halen in July (I know, it looks like a pattern, but it's not...really)
Skinny Puppy
Lollapalooza in August, as well as..
The Cure / Mogwai / Interpol / The Rapture (Curiosa Festival)
Sarah Mclachlan
maybe Patty Griffin / Emmylou Harris
and I've heard rumours that Indigo Girls are playing Freedom Hill, though I've not confirmed or looked into that.
and if OtR would get their asses up to Michigan more often than just the Christmas tour, i'd love to see them this summer too...(do wish lists count?)

Holy crap. I'll be there. If you see someone in an OTR shirt, it will most likely be me, so come say hi.

I do wanna go. when is it, and how does one go about obtaining these fabled "free tickets" you speak so freely of?
WalrusOct9
May 6 2004, 01:24 PM
Well...first you have to promise to say hi to me if you see me on saturday, so I know who you are.
My dad's firm did all the legal crap for freedom hill, and they have some kind of sponsorship deal or something like that...but anyways, the office gets something like 24 tickets in the first couple rows for all the shows, so there's a good chance I can get a few for any of the shows there. I'm going to try to hit up the Indigo Girls, Boston, Counting Crows, and the Moody Blues, if anyone's interested in going with me.

May 6 2004, 02:17 PM
Yeah, and probably doing all the huge amphitheaters that they've done for the last couple of summers. *yawn*
If they were in a good venue I think it'd be a cool show, but I'm sure it will be at Pine Knob...a nutoriously bad Yes venue, from what I've read. I think that venue has drunk people that they hire to be drunk and obnoxious at every show, since they seem to be in far greater numbers there than any other venue i've ever seen.
I'll let you guys know about the freedom hill tickets though...i should know soon.

I don't remember all the dates, but these are the shows I either have tickets for or plan on buying:
Blondie
Sarah McLaughlin
Cowboy Junkies
Madonna
Emmylou/Patty/Gillian/David/Buddy and Julie
Prince (for the 2nd time....hear a 3rd show will be on sale soon and I can only hope my wallet allows me to buy tickets!)
I think that's it for now.

Tickets for a 3rd Prince show are on sale this Saturday, noon. I think I will have to squeeze $80 for this one, too. The show last week was over the top. If you have the chance, don't miss this tour.

I'ma see 'im in Vegas. Should be groovy...
I love the term "
over the top"... it makes me picture Prince fans hanging on to the rafters and being forced over the outer edge of the coliseum seating... and then falling into the parking lot onto Jaguars with fancy alarm systems, all the while the windshield wipers aren't being too effective...
geez... that got depressing really quick.
SHAME ON YOU, otrfan!!! You're a sicko.

damn, i wish i could head over to Europe for shows.
There's so many bands I'd give anything to see who hardly ever or have never toured the U.S. (half of them don't even get their albums released here).
Have fun on your trip.

Do it for me, Matt. She felt like skipping St. Louis this year.
I MAY be seeing Alanis Morissette in August with the Barenaked Ladies. I would totally be going to see Rufus Wainwright, Ben Folds, and Guster except I'll be out of the country.

I don't have a lot of moolah, so I can't get to concerts as often as I'd like... which kills me, because I live about 20 minutes from the heart of San Francisco, and I could probably go to 5 concerts a WEEK that I would really enjoy. Anyway, So far this summer, I've seen Sam Phillips (amazing... a dream for several years...) and last night, The Gipsy Kings. A friend took me, and it was pretty fun... I had never really heard their music, but it turned into basically a huge dance party on the lawn. They are amazingly talented musicians... 11 people in the band. Keys, percussion, drums, bass, vocals, and - get this - SEVEN acoustic guitars.
Now what? I'm probably done for a while.

Just got back from seeing Sting and Annie Lennox at Jones Beach Theater. We got sprinkled on a bit before the show started, but otherwise a very pleasant evening on the shore with a full moon peeking through the clouds at this overpriced venue (which is now controlled by Clear Channel along with everything else in America). Annie Lennox was totally killer for a skinny white woman, I was pleasantly surprised. Sting's show was quite the Hollywood production: The best band money can buy, two back-up singers who really wailed, synchronized images on three video screens, and even Billy Joel dropping by to play keyboards on Every Breath You Take. Other than the way-too-long version of Roxanne, I thought it was a pretty good show. Nice to see he's still rocking on bass or guitar for most songs instead of becoming just a front man.

Awww man...soooo jealous. I wanted to go see Van Halen so bad. But while they were charging an arm and a leg for tickets, Ticketbastard would accept neither my arm nor my leg, only cash, of which I have very little.
Glad you had fun though. I hope they actually put out a full album of new music sometime...that's what I'd really like to hear.
