I've been transporting back to this show since getting the boot yesterday. It's a fabulous boot - I'm picturing the others that were there, remembering things Karin & Linford said on stage, expressions that went with them. Listening to this show I can remember every time I laughed. Smile doesn't count, as I believe I was perma-smile both nights.
Some favorite moments of this show:
-
Dayton, OH, 1903 - the opening randy newman tune
-Karin blanking out on the last verse of
Lost Lost Brother. "I had a senior moment." L: "Karin's been saying she should get paid by the word so she might leave some out to make a point."
-K&L finding out that "Get a leg up." was a 'horse thing'. K: "see, you always learn something at our shows. we may leave gaping holes in songs, but you learn something"
-Linford's spoken word poem and Karin just looking at him the whole time he read.
-Linford saying his spoken word album was going to be a Grey Ghost Joint Production "Do some Hip-Hop."
-Karin teasing us with her inner-soul sister at the end of
Hometown Boy "I love him... I love him..." adding in some of her make-you-melt "ooooOOh's"
They're serious dorks (in the best of ways). But so am I, so I'm allowed to say that and have it come off in the [good] way that it's meant.
Not a favorite thing about this show at the time but funny now:
The drunk lady I was oh-so fortunate enough to have sitting next to me at the bar. She'd spew out some comment at normal volume during a song a few times and was warned 3x by the sound guy and the bartender that I noticed. "If you can't be quiet and respectful of the band and others that are trying to enjoy the show, I will escort you out." Thank goodness her squabble didn't get picked up by pieman's mic's - just her inbetween song banter. It's funnier now, listening, but at the time it was sucky. I really wanted to do one of those hard shoves to the shoulder and knock her ass right off the stool and pull one of those "Wow, what happened?!?" innocent looks. But I'm a lover, not a shover. She did get escorted out, btw, during
Changes Come I believe. If you're on the vine for the show, she'll be obvious...
"It's important to have a voice!" - for visual's sake, she nodded her head matter-of-factly and raised her glass for that one. What's great listening back is Linford's comment to it. A dead-panned "yeah." and Karin going "ok..". We got a couple "Damn!'s" between songs. A "Fabulous!". A "What's goin' on?!" in response to Linford at one point. Kentuckianna stood with us during the show several times and man, the looks she was giving that lady were classic. I'm suprised Anna didn't drag her off the stool. heh.
Kylie is pretty much the OtR Canal St. merch-queen and until that night's show she had not been a 100% audience member in a while. At the end of the show she said: "I was actually moved..." and put her hand to her heart as her eyes glistened. If any of you are list members and remember when Kylie joined actwin, she was giddy and blown-away and flat out in love with OtR - she still is but doesn't "pee her pants" when she sees them anymore (list joke

). I still remember her email after her first show. So that moment at Sunday night's show, to me, was really, really cool. Got me a little glisten-y in the eyes too, but I think I hid it well.
For me, I had the best seat in the house that night. I was planted against the bar at the back of the room. Many a time that night I'd look around the room to find my fellow apples and internally shake my head at the fact that I was actually there. OtR wasn't the only factor in my perma-smile, know what I mean?
Karin also mentioned that Mick (Canal St. owner) said they could've done 3 nights and that maybe next time they would. I've got a lot of saving to do.

And Jeanne, you and I are hanging out more next time*.
*I said "next time". Gawd that felt good.
