Hi All,
ah yes, finally got around to registering and posting! I've been an OTR fan for a few years now and I'm excitedly awaiting Unspoken Requests (living in Ireland has its disadvanteages, come on Paste and the postal service!).
Are there any other Irish OTR fans lurking around? They've actually played here twice (once fronting the Cowboy Junkies and once as a headline). The last time they played the attendance was woeful (50 people). It was mid-week in Dublin and entailed an 8 hour round trip after work to hear them play (worth every minute of the drive and then some!). Hopefully they'll come to Cork next time and enjoy their much bigger fan base down here (I could get 50 out to them myself!).
Waiting for the Goldrush...
Ralph

I'm sure it does

But then I have to ask "An bhuil Gaeilige agut?" There now, that should root out any native speakers....
have you ever been to Ireland? I've had one short forray to the States, Chicago to be exact (Go 'hawks, Go!) Where abouts in Ireland are your family from?

No, my dad, his siblings, and my grandmother did once, took a tour. Not really sure what parts the family is from...from all over best I can gather...I think there are some scots in there too somewhere...

hello hello!
welcome to the orchard!
i was in ireland about 5 years ago. i absolutely loved it. i stayed in dublin a few days, and then took a back-packing tour (the paddywagon---that's an entirely different story altogether) through the south. went through cork...kissed the stone. then we went over to kilarney and the dingle peninsula (wow!). then we went up and saw the cliffs, the stones and back over to dublin.
it was interesting. we saw lots of castles along the way. they were all really cool, but it seemed as if though we could run down a check-list by the time the tour was over.
Hit by lightening or caught on fire: check
Invaded by the vikings: check
Pope visited there: check
St. Patrick died there: check
i miss eating penguins and drinking some orange drink...what was that? i can't remember. ugh.
anyway--glad you're here.

Yes I do! They're two very good friends of mine and Bryce is the one who got me hooked into OTR (and ice hockey!). I first met Bryce way back in '94 when he was over on a summer team to Ireland and I've known Carolyn even longer. How do you know them?

Ah yes, after trawling through a few of your previous posts I've figured out the connection! We actually met at B&C's wedding in Bandon! I was one of the ushers (along with a guy called John O' Sullivan).

Super cool, Ralph! I'm sure we probably met and I just don't remember (since I met so many great people that week!) So great to have you in the Orchard. I am longing to come back to your lovely green shores. Not sure when it will work out again, but I hope it won't be too long before we're back!
How are B&C doing? Is Carolyn cute as a button pregnant? Tell them we miss them next time you see them! Glad to get to chat with you!

Good to have you here, Ralph! One of my professors is Irish-American and proud of it, so I've developed quite the appreciation for your beautiful country over the past three years.

Pull up a chair and stay awhile!

I'm a Carrigaline man myself (although my wife and I live out in Mallow at the moment). How did you end up in Ballincollig?? Not the place most people would go to when visiting Ireland (no offense to Ballincollig people intended!)

Hey there, and welcome!

I've spent a week or so in Ireland, couple days in Dublin and hiking Wicklow to the South, little B&Bs in villages thereabouts. Took the train to Belfast, stayed for a day and then did some hiking on the North Antrim coast. Man, it was gorgeous. The whole trip.
Belfast, by the way: there was a pub where the musicians were sitting in chairs and drinking whiskey and just jamming on so many instruments. What a great thing to hear.

ralph,
i ended up in ballincollig because i had a few friends who lived there. (they have since moved to youghal (i think i mis-spelled that!).
Carrigaline is a beautiful area!

nice to 'meet' someone who knows a little bit (i'm sure a lot more than i do!) about ireland!

Ralph,
By the chance you'd be coming over here to the states for something; Could ya be a pal and bring along a bottle of Paddys for your dear friend nimrod. I'd be willing to part with a piece art or read a special poem just about the way Paddys turns caramel and silk into liquid kisses of a naughty, red-haired girl. Kisses that start on the lips and dance across your tongue, falling like nectar and hot passion on your throat.... ahhhh, I do like a little Paddys now and then. I'll wait for you Ralph.

Well, I am SOOOO late in welcoming you, Ralph.
I'm still recovering from my mind-altering first OTR live show in Dayton and life will never be the same, I'm happy to say.
Very happy to have you here. Enjoy.....and I hope you get your Unspoken Requests very soon...You'll love it.
