This controversial show has not been the hit I hoped it would be. I love this show. I know it rather slams Plastic Surgeons, but it is fiction. The procedures done in their OR and the basic overall view of what goes on is pretty much right on. The morals of the doctors is just what makes it interesting. I can see where Plastic Surgeons would object to being portrayed in such an unflattering light. Still, I like this show.
Anybody here watch?

I meant to watch that show, I really did... I even set a job for it in my Personal Video Recorder. But for some reason, I never watched it. Sadly, it seems, I may never have the chance as it is already on the 'edge' of being dumped.

The following exerpt...

"LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Although "Nip/Tuck" is only about halfway through its first season, FX has seen enough to decide it wants more of the series.

The cable network has ordered 15 more episodes of the show about two plastic surgeons in Miami. The second season will make its debut in the spring or summer of 2004...."

is from this article.

I kind of view this show the way that I view a train wreck or a car crash. You really do not want to see it, but when you do, you just cannot look away. Everytime I've flipped by it I sat there mesmorized (as well as grossed out).

So, the question is, will this "train wreck" last? My belief is yes. While shocking, this type of stuff never gets old. Take for instance, the footage from September 11th. While we get a bit desensitized after repeated viewings, it still hits hard every time I see it.

I suppose in a few years, then maybe it might get old, but thye'll probably amp it up more. Ok, gotta study, toodles!

Just watched the season finale....it was great.

Nip/Tuck
is returning in June...
Lynne
Trudes,

I watched the premiere episode of Nip/Tuck and thought to myself, well, that's a little bizarre (not even sure how I managed to stumble upon it, really ... probably I was trying to find The Shield!!), but N/T sort of pulled me in ...

I totally dug the son (cutie patootie!!), and I liked the relationship betw. Julian and Joely Richardson's character ... and I espec. enjoyed the episode in which their anesthesiologist (can't think of the name of the actress or the character ... but every time I see her, I think, that's the woman who reminds me of my pal Dolores!), a lesbian, talked a man out of having a sex change and they briefly were together.

Thought the season finale was MOST excellent! Julian was precious, and the way they got back at that tattoo-covered thug: AWESOME!!

: )

I watch occasionally, but this is cool: my roommate Sue works at Nickelodeon movies. Their offices are right next to the Nip/Tuck trailers... she sees them every day. In fact, her window faces the kid's trailer door. She's the least starstruck person in the world... didn't realize that the people were from a TV show until weeks into her internship, but still. That's so fun.

isn't it ironic?.. cool.gif

It's Baaaaaack.
Yay!!
I love this show!
TV Guide has an article and cover photo about it.
Starts next Tues at 10PM EDST on F/X.
Still no fans in the Orchard?

This show is hot on my list of viewing! lots of dark vs light
Will the balance tip?!

* SPOILER ALERT *

So, what didja think of the season premiere, Trudes? And everyone else?

: )

I liked it ... 'specially with the no-commercial format ... 'cept this was a night I really COULD have used a commercial break, as I was doing a bit of flipping from F/X to Fox Sports Midwest to watch the Cubs vs. the Cardinals (final: Cubs 5, Cards 4, MAJOR YAY!!!).

I really like Christian ... I think I'd like to BE him for about an episode (that's about all I could handle, I fear!) ... and once again, I was fascinated by the "surgeries" they performed ~ in fact, I was wondering if perhaps they included footage from Vanessa Redgrave's actual facelift (dunno if she's had one, but it sure looked liked she was getting one!) ... rather disappointed that yet another disgruntled disfigured person resorted to pulling out a handgun (this is at least the 4th time someone ~ including one of the surgeons! ~ held a gun on someone in this show; is it even legal to "pack heat" in Cally??! And wouldn't they have installed a metal detector after that incident with the gun-totin' mobster last season??!)

Anyhoo, I like the overall themes of this show: Imperfections, physical appearance and its impact on self-esteem, success, happiness, infidelity, sex, etc. ... and I didn't even have to look away one time during this episode!! (Sometimes those surgery scenes get to me; this episode was far tamer than many of the CSIs I watched this past TV season!!!)

It was so cool no commercial! Not to give anything away, butt how about the dad thing? Will there be a change, all the reason to tune in next time!
Trudes
(.(.(.SPOILER.).).).)

I'm waiting for it to come out that Sean's son is really Christian's.
There has not been actual proof of this spoken yet, but it has always been obvious to me that Matt looks so much more like Christian than Sean.
I can't believe that Christian will actually take on the DAD role...it isn't his kid, he is not committed to the Mom...what's the deal, other than financial?
It sounds wonderful for the kid to have a father figure, but to me Christian doesn't fit the description. I don't get this part....it feels a little like jumping the shark....adult series and babies.
Y'all know that Vanessa Redgrave is Joely Richardson's real Mom, right?
Lynne

I did NOT know until a few hours before the season premiere, when my pal Tee-Hee was talking about it ... she said, "Every time I watch her (Joely) now, I can't help but see her mom in her." I found myself thinking, while I was watching Vanessa (one of my favorite actresses), "Wow, I keep seeing Joely in Vanessa."

: )

I dunno about the whole Christian/baby thing ... I did find it awfully sweet last season when he had made the decision to be responsible for the baby (thinking it was his), and then the look on his face (awe, confusion, etc.) when he realized the baby was black (and apparently not his) ... he seemed so sincere, I just found it all very charming (but then, I'm easy) ...

I had to look away TWICE tonight -- matter o' fact, had to change the channel one time, couldn't even bear to LISTEN! -- when nose-related procedures were being done!!

: )
HappyScout
Hey when is this on? I will tell you when to catch SpongeBob!
Lynne
Weekly "premieres" are at 9 p.m. Central on Tuesdays, with an encore showing at 10 p.m. Dunno when F/X shows it again, but I know it is aired again at least a couple of times during the rest of the week.

: )
Trudes
Lynne,
I tried to stay away from this thread because we missed it last night. I believe it is on again fri or sat.
Gory? Nose procedures are especially cringy...did they use a hammer? (for real!)
Lynne

They brought out the little mallet (twice), and both times I flipped to another channel!!

: )

The first 5 minutes of last night's ep. were among the funniest ever, in my never-all-that-humble opinion ... helped along by the fact that their anesthesiologist bears a striking resemblance to my pal Dolores in Galveston ... except Dolores is smaller and has a much higher voice, but their faces and hair are nearly identical!

And what IS it about Christian that makes me hate him one minute, sorta like/love him the next??!
Lynne
Anyone watching?

Trudes?

It has been pretty good, methinks ... : )
Trudes
SPOILER!!

I have been watching and it's really getting good.
The big secret is finally out and a lot of blackmail is brewing.
The life coach really daring, no?

We watched last weeks and this weeks back to back last night.
I really was feeling very bad for Christian when he and Julia embraced and they were crying and Julia blurts out the truth. Sarah McLachlan's 'Answer' was playing in the background.
I just knew he wouldn't get to keep Wilbur. I think it was just an introduction to dad-hood to prepare us for Matt.

Curious about him donating sperm for Liz...what is this...a 180 degree flip for his lifestyle?

Matt confessed to the lifecoach about the car hit and run, too...more fodder for blackmail

This is such a juicy show!

That may have been a poor chice of words...the OR scenes are quite realistic. The sterile technique used is not!
Lynne

Ah, your choice of words was PERFECT, actually!!

: )

Yeah, I was wondering about the OR scenes ... one minute, they've got on surgical masks, the next, Shawn and Liz are sitting there chatting while they apply "p**** lips" (I absolutely LOVED that nickname!) with "Lies" blaring in the background (guess the dialogue would've been too muddled w/masks on).

I thought Jill Clayburgh was GREAT, also.

Yes, all sorts of blackmail fodder ... I have to wonder, though, if there are enough major characters to sustain some of the storylines. I mean, where do they go once Shawn knows the truth, Julia and Christian sleep together again (you KNOW it's inevitable!), and Life Coach Girl ends up with Shawn? Or Julia? Or Liz??!
Trudes
Yikes!
There's still a lot of unresolved issues out there.
We can't be coming close to the end, yet.
What about Matt and the hit and run that the life coach knows about.
Talk about your prime time adult soap operas.
How about those conjoined twins? That was a heart wrenching episode. The actress that played the twins' mom was excellent IMO.
Of course we know Christian and Sean will get back together....it's the basis of the show! I'm wondering how they will resolve the Julia thing.
Lynne
LMFAO!

Kimbra, whilst looking at the "prototype" doll of herself sitting at Sean's table: Did you put in the new vagina?

Sean: No.

Kimbra: Then why is she so disheveled?

SPOILER

Well, 'The Real Christian' has resurfaced...loveable pond scum that he is.
Actually, I think he was so hurtful to the blind girl to force her to hate him...thereby relieving himself of guilt for leaving her in an unrequited love situation. Clever Christian.
I think Sean will return to Julia, but not until he struggles a bit in competition with the tennis guy.
Matt is hopelessly in love and is 'blind'. Whooo!
Season finale coming up...there will be cliff-hangers, no doubt.
HappyScout
Yes the story line is not what I was hoping for, but it does keep me watching!
I look forward to the finale!
Lynne
Season finale: What did YOU think, Trudes??!

: )
Trudes
Who-o-o-o-a...
I liked it.
The cliffhanger is not what I thought it would be.

~~~SPOILER~~~~
I kinda felt sorry for Adrian...he was a victim of a really poor upbringing.... and it kinda ended badly. I had thought perhaps he was the carver...
Whatever happened to Matt's hit and run storyline? I thought Ava would betray him with the info Matt gave her about the H&R incident.
OK...so Sean and Julia will no doubt get back together.
Do you think Julia's boyfriend is the carver?
I thought that the last few weeks were rushed just a tad. There was a lot of information to process and conclude.....HIV scare, Christian's blind friend getting the boot quickly...mother of Wilber going to die apparently...all the Matt/Adrian/school incidents. A little fragmented with loose ends.
I guess it's part of the cliffhanger mystique, although I think some storylines are dead-in-the-water.
Joan Rivers looked horrid. She is approaching that plastic Michael Jackson look. I thought she looked 'better' as the 'hag'!
I wonder if she regrets all that she has done to her face and was releasing it a little in this show?
Lynne
I dunno: I thought Joan Rivers (whom I generally dislike) showed a pretty great sense of humor regarding herself and the work she's had done. I laughed OUT LOUD over her line about being "late for QVC" ~ and IMMEDIATELY called my gal-pal, who is addicted to QVC!
: )
I had somehow missed last week's Nip/Tuck (had it on tape, had not yet watched), so I hadn't seen the part about Sean and the Carver. Was TOTALLY surprised by Ava's revelations ... and had newfound empathy for her character. Thought Alec Baldwin was SUperb! And the ending: Well, suffice it to say I had a Carver-related nightmare. Completely unexpected.
I seem to recall last year's season finale being pretty excellent as well.
Trudes
Begins Sept 20th.
Goody.
There's going to be another surgeon playrd by Bruno Campos (hottie) who is a bi-sexual and there's gonna be some three-ways.
Anne Heche is appearing in a few episodes hitting on Sean.
I wonder if Famke Janssen will be back as the transgender pedifile.
Also...I hope we will find out who the Carver is.
sluuurrrpppp.
rukimeera
i played catch up with this show the last couple of months.....ie, i spent 2 loooong sundays watching all of season 1 and all of season 2 on dvd, intrigued after catching parts of a few episodes at a friend's house. i am looking forward to season 3.......never really been this much into a soap-opera kind of show (does DH count? its pretty tame/lame after watching nip/tuck)....but i enjoy the edgy dialogue...
Trudes
uh....whoa!
great opener.
