Does this make sense:
My favorite OtR album is OHIO,
but my favorite album of all time (of any album from any artist) is GDBD
is this possible?

I agree! I am a GDBD fan, but it was the first album I bought. HOWEVER, I think the lyrics on OHIO are more meaningful for me.

I had to go with "Films for Radio". It was the first OtR cd I heard and "The World Can Wait", "Fairpoint Diary", "I Radio Heaven" and "When I Go" are what got me hooked.

pitting Good Dog, Bad Dog against Ohio is perhaps like asking a mother who do you like best, your first-born or second-born.
I think GDBD is going to win this poll, and it's probably the one that I would have to vote for in good conscience, but I have to say that while listening to Ohio I sometimes ask the question "What Dog? Bad who? could there possibly be any other music out there worth listening to besides this?" in other words, I agree and completely understand saying that GDBD is your favorite of all time (mine too), and yet Ohio is your favorite OtR record. makes perfect sense to me.

Yeah, this is really a difficult one. I feel the same way as Kylie. Ohmygosh, maybe we're twins separated at birth. Of course, then again that would be imposible because that would mean our mother would have been in labor for like eight years. Oh, and don't you already have a twin?

edwardsaaron, are you the third?
Eve . . . I think I'll go put it on right now.

I have the same thing goin' on--GDBD was my intro to them, but Ohio might edge it out just 'cause of the sheer volume of songs I love.
But it edges it out just barely . . .

I'm the only person who has chosen Besides. Like most of of the applegangers here GDBD was my first OtR album. After that, everything just fell into place. But for me Besides has always held something that the rest of the albums to not possess. It may have something to do with that secretive feel it had (with the old mail list for the Rhinelanders) or perhaps its just the way Karen sings My love is a fever, my love is a fable. . .
Besides is my favorite because to me, it is the most intimate.

I think if I could make a compliation from Besides and The Cutting Room Floor, it would be my favorite OTR album. Both have some of my favorite recordngs on it but they're both kind of inconsistent (as is usually the case for rarities/b-sides albums)

EVE was my first OtR recording I owned. I read a short review in the back of a magazine that mentioned the opening breath on Happy With Myself? so I became intrigued. I had to order it 3 times before they (they being Turtle's) got it in. I am glad I was so dang persistent in ordering it, otherwise I may have never discovered this little gold mine we all know and love. GDBD is still my favorite, but I think that is sentimentality as well as love for the music.

i had to vote for ohio, as it is currently the only otr album i own. i would
buy the others, but, ummm, i can't seem to get ohio out of my cd changer,
and that's been since novemberish when i bought it after hearing it in the
listening booth at my local indie retailer (speaking of, i saw a photo of
somebody in one of these threads wearing an ear-X-tacy t-shirt!). being a
double album and all, it's taking up two spots, and i've just gotten some
live shows off the vines here, and they're taking up some spots too, so i
do have other otr material, i just don't know what albums the other stuff
came from. and then i do have to save some spots for wilco, and neko
case, so i WILL get some more otr someday. i've kinda been waiting till i
could go to a show and pick some albums up there...maybe that will be
in june in lexington. meanwhile, the rest of my vast music collection is
languishing, because i've gotten majorly addicted to otr! however, the
old 97's have a new one coming out in june, and that's definitely going
into the rotation.

This is hard to do because there are many ways to define a 'favorite'.
I voted for Patience because it's the first one I ever bought. I noticed that a lot of people who voted for GDBD said the same thing. That also came out the same year I got married and graduated from college, so it has lots of sentimental value.
Despite it being my first and sentimental favorite, I'd have to say that Eve & GDBD are the about equal for the ones I most enjoy listening to. My Love is a Fever and Jack's Valentine are two of my favorite songs.
From a more objective standpoint, I'd say that GDBD is probably the best (musically, song writing, production, sound, etc.) of all the recordings so far.

Let me start by saying that GDBD is going win this poll.
I hovered my curser over it myself, but in the end cast my vote for Ohio. On page one, Brookd summed it up precisely! It's like a mother choosing between her first and second born child. Granted, something very special happened during the recording of GDBD, but Ohio, I believe will prove to be their "white album". Not only did something special happen, something genius was revealed!
Time will tell...

), but OHIO comes really close. I appreciate OHIO's more adventuresome moments for their own sake, but with GDBD I love
every single song.

YES!!
I think that perhaps there are different 'favorite' albums for different parts of me...
Ohio when I need strength
GDBD when I need reassurance that it's gonna be ok
...but not necessarily limited to these 'needs'...they fulfill so many others!
