Setlist:
I Don't Wanna Waste Your Time Jesus In New Orleans Drunkard's Prayer Trouble I'm On a Roll All I Ever Get For Christmas Is Blue Here It Is Snow Angel Angel Band (for Michael Wilson) Ohio Professional Daydreamer Etcetera Whatever (for me Desperate For Love Hey Tom Orphan Girl [encore] North Pole Man New Redemption Song It was a small but exceptionally enthusiastic audience last night in the lovely and intimate Kate Hepburn Theater on a snowy Saturday night in Old Saybrook. The band responded very palpably to the energy, delivering one of the most spellbinding performances I've ever witnessed. Vienna Teng was also in amazing form. Thanks to the graciousness of the artists, Colm O'Riley (their engineer) and the venue's management, I was able to capture very good recordings of both sets and look forward to sharing them in their entirety. For now, here's a taste. It was a real pleasure to share the evening with my old PattyPal® Gerry (who's become an avid OtR fan since seeing them play in Ridgefield last summer) and Randy from Rhode Island, who drove hundreds of miles to attend three of their shows this week. Between the two of them, we'll have some amazing photos to go along with the music!

For the record, this show was December 2, not December 3.
Setlist: I Don't Wanna Waste Your Time Born All I Ever Get For Christmas Is Blue Trouble I'm On A Roll Trumpet Child Here It Is Snow Angel Poughkeepsie Ohio Professional Daydreamer We're Gonna Pull Through Jack's Valentine (with Mickey drum solo) Orphan Girl [encore] I Want You To Be My Love (for Jason and Sarah) Northpole Man It's always a pleasure to see Over the Rhine but I didn't honestly feel this was one of the band's most inspired shows, although there were certainly high points (including this exquisite performance of Snow Angel). There was a lovely moment when they played I Want You to Be My Love for a couple who had written to them to request it. It was their wedding song, and toward the end they got up to relive the moment in the aisle of the theater to much applause. Vienna Teng (with sidekick/producer Alex Wong) turned in a very engaging performance, as she has every time I've seen her. She and OtR make a perfect double bill, IMO. I was glad for the opportunity to catch up with Linford and Karin on the streets of Tarrytown before the show, and it was a rare treat to hang out with my old pal Slacker Jane! Looking forward to their show in Old Saybrook CT this Saturday. |
