I was channel surfing the other day and one of those loony local craft shows was on community TV. This lady with a very decidely country accent (who never, not once) smiled or looked up at the camera was making bedazzled boxes and monograms and stuff out of beads and rhinestones.

Every time she would pick up or refer to the largest variety of rhinestones in her stash--and these and only these rhinestones, she would call them "your bling bling"--as in "now, put you bling bling around the border of the wooden box". Never rhinestones, or beads, or jewels, or anything at all that one would expect her to call them; she just called them "bling bling". I sat there in a trance watching this lady go on and on and on about the bling bling. And not once did I think of Tupac, or even DJ Jazzy Jeff. I could only think of this thread...

Well... bling bling then!

Have a bling bling halloween!! biggrin.gif

Hey I haven't been around much as of late. Can someone tell me is the Nov 17th CST date in stone? Who all is going?

I haven't picked up my ticket yet, but I'll be there, too. But, since it's only one night this time around, I think a lot of the more distant apples are sitting this one out.

Busy weekend for us...we won't be there. Looks like the Kentucky Theatre will be our only show for the remainder of 2007.

If this was on the 18th, I would so drive up and drive back. Alas...

How is it whenever you or I show up, the room goes silent?
I think I may just decide to get a complex...
After the Dayton meetup debacle, I was afraid we'd get to Arnold's and someone would have left a note saying "psych!" and they'd all have met somewhere else.

OK this is my first time on one of these forums. I went to the OTR website to learn about this group and was amazed at the "culture" around them!! My first (and so far only) exposure to OTR is The Trumpet Child CD which I received as a gift. I'm hooked!! I would like some advice on which CD to purchase now. I like the styles of the songs on the one I have now. After listening to the interview on the website about this CD, I'm a little concerned that the previous recordings may not be quite as upbeat or in a similar vein to Trumpet Child. Any advice for this newbie? Thanks.

Welcome to the orchard, Jeri!

Fortunately or unfortunately (depending on your point of view), no two Over the Rhine albums are very much alike. They don't have a consistent "style" and Karin & Linford's willingness to strike out in new musical directions is one of their most noteworthy and (in my view) admirable qualities as songwriters. However, there are many fans who love certain CDs but don't much care for others. I've found all of them to be very rewarding in their own way.

The Trumpet Child is probably the most upbeat of their albums and represents a deliberate attempt to "lighten the mood" after Drunkard's Prayer, which is mostly about the near-disintegration and renewal of their marriage. You might try the stylistically adventurous Films For Radio next. Good Dog Bad Dog seems to be the favorite among their fans (myself included), but while its songs are often hopeful the album is by no means "upbeat." Whatever you decide on, try to keep an open mind and give it a chance to work its magic. smile.gif

Agree w/ Keith but there's the double set from 5 yrs ago, OHIO, which has a few different moods and a ton of great songs....I think the best for your bucks. But you could just throw a dart at a list of their records and buying the set your dart hit...& you'd be doin' just fine

and i agree with both keith and brian, i would also suggest that since you like the vibe of TTC that you consider "live from nowhere v2" before it disappears and/or seriously consider pre-ordering a copy of "live from nowhere v3."

and while GDBD is my favorite, i generally suggest Ohio as the best "launching point" for someone new to OtR, mostly for the reasons that brian (morninguy) previously stated.

and welcome, glad you found the place, and more importantly, the music.

While I agree with the suggestions by Keith, Brian and Bill, it sounds like a compilation of their span prior to The Trumpet Child is more what you're looking for. If that's the case, Discount Fireworks is the way to go.

I reccomend Good Dog, Ohio, and Eve, in that order. Every year I lean more and more towards Eve being my favorite OTR album, but admittedly it's not really where the band is going anymore, but that shouldn't discourage you from tracking it down in any form you can find it. It's worth it, trust me.
