Anyways, the first single is already out, don't ask me how, but I've uploaded it to the Orchard Gmail account if anyone wants to hear it.

The new guy actually sounds a bit like Michael on this one, IMO...it's a pretty decent song, although I think the blatant use of the "Devil Inside" guitar riff is a bit unnecessary.

Gotta admit it sounds pretty cool--catchy and sounds enough like the old stuff to appease us nostalgic folks...

Apparently the new album is due out November 29th. Damn that was fast...either the new guy had little to do with the writing of the album or they just work really really fast when they know there's a Christmas release deadline to make.

Just a heads up...I'll post some thoughts on the album after I get it and give it a few spins. I still think the show was a terrible idea, but that's not the new guy's fault and it's still the same guys writing the music, so the album deserves a chance. Whether anyone is actually interested in hearing new music by these guys remain to be seen, but I'm curious to see what the music sounds like since they've had 8 years since Elegantly Wasted to write it.

I seem to remember them saying early on in the reality part f the show that most of the words and music was already written for the album. (Most likely recorded already as well) and the winner would just go into the studio and sing along. I doubt JD had much input in writing the entire CD with the exception of Pretty Vegas which was done as part of the show.

Well, my initial impression is that it's uneven but pretty good, but not the kind of album that's going to propel INXS back to immense popularity. It sounds enough like INXS to please the hardcore fans that are still left, but I don't think it's an album like Kick that will make all these kids who never heard of INXS before the reality show suddenly rush out and buy an INXS album. There's some tunes on it I really like, but there isn't another really strong single like "Pretty Vegas" to keep the album going. (Although, to be fair, I have no idea what constitutes a hit single these days other than record companies paying the radio stations to play a song).

I don't think it's as strong a comeback album as Duran Duran's Astronaut (which is the obvious 80's comeback comparison), but it's definitely not an embarassment and should please fans, I think. Whether anyone else pays attention...who knows.
