Yeah, Griffin seems to me to be the local act they want to spread love about, but they've usually invited a national act as well.

How I wish I'd seen the Sexsmith/Sixpence show.

Not to rub it in, but that was my favorite christmas show. I got there late and missed all but the last 5-6 songs of sixpence, but it was a great show. I had seen sixpence earlier that year, and from what I could see of the Taft show it was a much better performance as well.

Bill Mallonee opened up in 2002. I forget if there was another one.
Pedro the Lion and Susan Enan opened up in 2003.

ES...Thanks for the link to Griffin House's website.
I liked what I heard.
I liked what I saw...he's adorable.
Does he perform live as a solo or does he have other musicians, vocals?

I've seen him (Griffin House) a few times, and he's performed solo (vocals and himself on guitar) and one time with a backup guitarist. He's now on Nettwerk (a subsidiary of some major label, I think). He might have a band if he's playing the Taft...

Kathleen Edwards or The Kennedys would be great opening acts.

Paul Moak played on Griffin House's latest CD, it sounds pretty good.

I think you'll be in for a surprise.

And apparently Will Sayles is playing drums with him, too.

Sorry for the hijack...

For all those who don't know Paul Moak , he toured with Over the Rhine on
the Ohio tour in 2003. And he plays guitar on Changes Come, the live album.

Some people loved him, some people didn't.... but he rocks!!

I hope he's playing with Griffin House.

The Kennedys would be cool. I saw them open for Equation at Little Brother's back in 2000 or so... I like 'em... I still get the Kennedys' email updates, but they never come through Ohio...

I was at that Kennedys show with Equation as well. I am somewhat friends with them. I booked them as a house concert at my Aunt's house in Marietta about two years ago. I actually videotaped that Equation/Kennedys show.

They played Reynoldsburg, OH about a month ago at a private house concert. Unfortunately, I had already purchased tickets to see Richard Buckner and Damien Jurado in Pittsburgh on the same night. I would not miss Damien Jurado for anybody.

How was that Buckner/Jurado show, btw? I was intending to see them when they came thru this area a couple weeks ago, but wasn't feeling too hot on the evening of the show so I wound up staying in. Unlike you though, I'd have been going more to see Buckner than Jurado.

The Buckner/Jurado show was great. Dolorean opened and they were incredible. Buckner uses various guitars to create walls of sound. It is pretty neat. I am not crazy about his setlists usually.

Jurado was flawless. He touched on every album except the first. I got to hang out with him for about half an hour before the show started. He expressed his dissatisfaction in touring. He said that this might be his last tour.

The show was better than expected. I had seen both artists previously and this was one of the better performances.

Does anyone have the DL on this year's openers? I was trying to remember if they've waited this late to announce the full line up in the past and can't.

Maybe Griffin House is all we get this year?

Wow - is what I have to say about Griffin House after seeing him open last night at the Taft! I really enjoyed seeing him sing, "All I Need is Everything" with Karin! Although I was hoping for some harmony between the two. I saw him at Canal Street by himself with a guitar about a year and a half ago and I wasn't too crazy about him (and none of the people with me loved him either). But, he has improved tremendously! Liked the longer hair, too. Overall, his sound was great!

I'd be curious to hear what some of you gents thought of Griffin House on Saturday night. As a lady, I think I'm rather biased in his favor. smile.gif Am I right or am I right, Applettes?

And am I the only one who thought his voice was a bit reminiscent of Bruce Springsteen's?
