So we've all talked about favorite songs, albums, concerts, covers, etc. But if K+L handed you a pen and paper before the show and told you to draw up the set-list, what would you choose? This, IMO, is a little different than just picking your favorite songs in that you want the show to flow and have a certain "energy," so order-of-songs is important. I know that with Jump, there are songs that I feel pretty average about, but when they play them live it's a whole other story.

Concerts vary greatly in length, so we'll make this one 16-songs long (about middle of the road in my experience).

C'mon everyone, let's play by the rules: choose 16 songs-- no quadruple-encores at the end or 10-song-medleys or anything like that. Please don't post and say, "Oh but I just CAN'T keep it to 16." If you can't, then you are free to start your own thread tongue.gif

1.) Faithfully Dangerous

2.) Last Night

3.) Show Me

4.) Fairpoint Diary

5.) My Love is a Fever (the old, sultry demo version...not the rap version)

6.) Changes Come

7.) Give Me Strength

8.) It's Never Quite What it Seems

9.) I Radio Heaven

10.) The Body is a Stairway of Skin

11.) Long Lost Brother

12.) Bothered (the version with just Karin and piano)

13.) Cruel and Pretty

14.) Fever

15.) Lifelong Fling

(encore)

16.) B.P.D.

I'm a relative newbie (even though I've been a fan for 4+ years), so I don't know a lot of the old indie stuff. I look forward to seeing what the veteran Apples come up with smile.gif

For a full band show:

Sea & Sky (with the sing along first line "I feel like a castaway, but I'm not afraid...")
All I Need Is Everything
Birds
Within Without
How Does It Feel
Happy With Myself?
Nobody Number One
Last Night (or Jig Newton, if it was the original four band members)
The World Can Wait
Like A Radio
June (circa 1997)
Ubiquitous Hands
Changes Come
Rhapsodie

Encores:
My Love Is A Fever (the kicking version they did this summer)
If I'm Drowning (the leaving one at a time version)

I'll have to think about one for just a K & L show.

The Genius Of Water
If I'm Drowning/Give Me Strength (reverse of the FFR version)

Anyone ever notice that Over The Rhine's exit to "If I'm Drowning" is exactly like the way U2 ends shows with "40"? I wonder which OTR member saw U2 during the 80's and brought that idea to the band.

Dream setlist? Sure...21 songs should be about two hours.

1. The World Can Wait
2. Show Me (not my favorite song, but I think it'd be a nice, uptempo release after TWCW)
3. Nobody Number One
4. Spark
5. Hometown Boy
6. Fairpoint Diary
7. Go Down Easy
8. Melancholy Room
*band leaves*
9. Who Will Guard The Door (K&L)
10. Fever (K&L)
*band returns*
11. Within Without
12. Etcetera Whatever
13. Everyman's Daughter
14. June
15. B.P.D.
16. Miles
17. When I Go

*encore*
18. Firefly
19. Let It Be
20. Idea #21
21. If I'm Drowning

I don't know how to begin to try and think about what order I'd like them in, 'cept for the last song, I just know I'd love these in one show.

paul & virginia
last night
i've been slipping
and can it be
whatever you say
june
everyman's daughter
who will guard the door
go down easy
i painted my name (acoustic/karin solo)
conjectures of a g. b.
i let it go
professional daydreamer
i will remember
lasso a falling star

last song:
a whiter shade of pale (i don't know who wrote it, i just know i LOVE j. cocker singing it)
or
darling be home soon (lovin' spoonful)
or
by your side (sade)

if it's a Xmas tour show:
river (j. mitchell)

toughest question ever...
not necessarily a good order.
also don't think that list would be a good show for the lack of upbeat "happy" songs.
But if it were a private performance for me (which is where the dream element is brought in)...it would look something likes this:

Ohio
Ruby Tuesday (cover)
B.P.D.
Born
Etcetera Whatever
Bothered
reading of I Will Remember (by Linford)
Firefly
Happy To Be So
Let it Be (cover)
Buddy Miller comes on to do one of his songs with Karin....Fall on the Rock
Little did I know
Lucy
When I Go

Long lost brother
Hush Now
She

Latter Days
Lifelong Sunshine
Spark

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you're destined for.
But don't hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you're old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you've gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

This isn't the sort of question I typically spend a lot of time pondering, so this is thrown together fairly quickly.

Murder
How Does It Feel (To Be On My Mind)
Fever
I've Been Slipping
I Will Remember
Lifelong Sunshine
Rhapsodie
Changes Come
Bothered (Eve version)
Latter Days
Falling (Death of a Tree)
Within Without
When I Go
Firefly
------
Drunkard's Prayer
If I'm Drowning

Something tells me a lot of people really want to see them play some of the early stuff again.

Now if only they'd tour with a guitarist who can rock out enough to do it...maybe someone with the same facination with delay pedals as Ric had... cool.gif wink.gif

Hmmm... as much as I love Patty, I can't picture OtR covering those songs.

Based mostly on the stuff I love and never/rarely get to hear, more than my absolute favorite songs:

Main Set
Go Down Easy
Last Night
Toledo
I Let It Go / I Will Remember
Everyman's Daughter
Conjectures of a Guilty Bystander
Trouble (Karin solo)
The Body is a Stairway of Skin
How Long Have You Been Stoned
Give Me Strength (Karin solo)
Professional Daydreamer
If Nothing Else
The World Can Wait
Son of a Preacher Man

Encore 1
Hallelujah
Happy to Be So
Changes Come

Encore 2
"Let's get Jack and Terri out here!"
Jack's Valentine

Encore 3
"Hey, here's a couple of guys some of you may remember!"
Sea and Sky
How Does It Feel + Reprise
Daddy Untwisted
If I'm Drowning
