Do you guys know any good pirate songs? I'm making a pirate-themed CD. Here's what I've got so far:

-"Salty Dog" - Flogging Molly
-"New Pirate Tradition" - Joy Electric
-"A Pirate's Life for Me" - Pirates of the Caribbean (of course)
-"Pirate" - Too Much Joy
-The pirate song by Ray Stevens (I forget the title)

I'm not sure if all of those will make it onto the CD. Any other suggestions? (And I don't want the Veggietales song--it's too silly.)

"Pirates (So Long Lonely Avenue)" by Rickie Lee Jones, from her MASTERPIECE, Pirates.

And I know the Veggie Tales song is silly, but have you heard the Relient K version? Prety cool...

Ray Stevens's song is simply titled, "The Pirate Song." You got the title without even trying. smile.gif

Can I ask what motivated you to make this cd?

There's a band called "The arrogant worms" who did a song called "the Last saskatchewan Pirate."

And what's wrong with the pirates who don't do anything?

Now that I've had two years to discover new music, I have to recommend "The Mariner's Revenge Song" by the Decemberists ... if you're still working on this, that is. smile.gif

not necessarily pirate themed, but my brother always refers to Tom Waits as "jaunty pirate music", especially stuff off Raindogs. just the sound of his voice, and the kind of music, sounds like the sort of thing a pirate would sing...

The Barenaked Ladies have a CD called Born On A Pirate Ship, but it's been too long since I've listened to it to remember if any particular song is about pirates.

Jimmy Buffett has a song called Jolly Mon Sing which is a story about Jolly Mon and he was attacked by pirates. He also has a song called a Pirate Looks At 40, but it's not really about pirates.

If memory serves me right, Emerson Lake & Palmer had a song about pirates.

Oh, the fiery furnaces - Blueberry boat. Basically a rock opera about someone trying to ship their award winning blueberries somewhere, and then they get attacked by pirates.

Relient K does a hilarious take on the song "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", which is from some Veggietales movie IIRC. It's more funny than it is about pirates, but still...

Eleni Mandell's "Pirate Song" isn't really about pirates but it's a pirate song.
