Hey from the hometown boy, Dave Rohman. Youngest of 9, yes,Irish-Catholic.
I live in Cincinnati, for most of my 44 years. I lived in Memphis, Seattle and Raleigh, NC 1998-2002. Good to be back home. That's my cat , Shadow, in the picture. I'm a very recent Over the Rhine fan, since August 2003. I read about their free show at Joseph Beth bookstore and at the last minute decided to go. They were really good. My buddy Stan was the guy who yelled for louder vocals after the 2nd song. I bought Ohio and I couldn't stop listening to it. Ohio is my favorite song so far. She is a close 2nd. I was playing golf the Sunday they played in Crittenden, Ky. The guys I was playing with had to leave so I decided to drive down and see the show. I got there 15 minutes late, but I could hear karin's voice wafting across the grass as I walked to the stage. They were unbelievable. I remember thinking this was what it was like to see the Beatles at the Cavern in 1962. I bought Eve , Patience and Besides that day. I've got a few pictures from the front row on my crappy digital camera. I guess I missed the sitar. But I saw the vibes. I thought I would ease myself into the catalog to get familiar with their stuff. Yeah, right. About a week later, I went to pastemusic.com and ordered the rest of their cds, and the vinyl edition of ohio, and an ohio poster. I now have all their cds and I've been sending copies of Ohio to friends across the country trying to get them to go see them live. I'm up to 8 copies. And I bought some FFR press kit off ebay yesterday. "Somebody stop me!!" - Jim Carrey. I bought tickets to both Canal Street shows and met some of the listees. Brian and of course the delightful Kylie. I got a poster signed by k+l after the show, amazing to be face to face with karin. I couldn't breathe after. I got my buddy to go to the 2nd night, and he is won over. We're going to the Taft show, tickets in row A. I'm looking forward to meeting people at Taft. You guys are a very unique bunch. I hope to contribute my 2 cents worth. I'm bringing cookies (white choc/cranberry). I just learned the chords to Hometown Boy so that's the name I chose. So does this obsessed feeling ever go away, or diminish? I hope not. Thanks for reading. "Hello , Cleveland!" - Keith Moon of the Who greets the crowd at a concert in Cincinnati in the 70s. -------------------- www.daverohman.com

Hey Dave,
It's good to see someone about my age (and a golfer, too) also going goo-goo over 'a band'. I thought this stuff was for teenagers. ALthough, I've been following them on and off since 1990 only now have I seriously become enthralled with their music (ie., reading the lyrics, listening nonstop, coming to this board daily, etc., just like a was a teen again). I'm also spreading their music like a virus. Yeah, it's illegal, but I believe (as Janus Ian points out-see her essay on her website), it promotes sails (he-he). I, for one, will complete my collection at the next concert as well. BTW-I was at the Sat. Canal Street Concert, though, I wasn't a listee at the time. Like I said in my bio, I grew up in Norwood. I was down there (to get stuff at Richard's Electric) yesterday and took a quick cruise of their street (only because of the Volvo was I able to pick out the Grey Ghost). Stately, old place, nicely updated! (Bushes need trimming so you can see the porch better). I got a lot more for my time, however. It was something of an Ohio homecoming, for me. FOr example: My first girlfriend had lived exactly across the street (on the corner), my grandmother lived on Ivanhoe, my best friend lived on Wood (practically in their backyard), my first wife lived on Bell, I played golf a lot at Avon Fields just up the road, I remembered people who lived in that neighborhood that I hadn't thought of for decades. I remember things, good and bad, I'd done around there. My elementary school is just two blocks away. Memories, stacked, on skids, to be unloaded and opened. Time capsules not buried. Now if I could only write music. OK, I can't write music but I do play piano and I'm interested in those CHords you mentioned. I'm also trying to figure out Ohio, however, I'm not very good at it. You figure out the chords, I could probably figure out the treble cleft/melody lines/interludes. We can exchange emails (garry_garrett@msn.com) and put our heads together on this if you'd like. Cheers, Garry |

garry and dave,
make sure to check out the "otr vines" OtR Vines some great live shows, you just list your name, wait your turm, burn your copy from the master and pass it along. all for the low, low cost of a couple of blanks & postage to the next guy. cheap at twice the price. also look at something many of us are doing for the taft show, it will be fun and hopefully show K&L how much what they do is appreciated. you are welcome to join in, hope you'll consider "The Great Flower Conspiracy" [sorry for the brief commercial interlude] let me know if you have any questions. bill hot damn, i'm now "elite" This post has been edited by bivester: Nov 6 2003, 12:43 AM -------------------- "music can change people, people can change the world" ~unknown "and i'm so twitterpated about bill, i just tuned the wrong guitar...i said twitterpated, that's what i said." ~karin @ cst | dayton (sat | 04.09.2005) Rhinestoned Cowboys, Ltd.®© est. 2003 & proud "oft-seeming elitist rhinelander" ©pmcp-2007 one-hundred[100]fifty[50]one[01] ...and what is my favorite OtR show? the next one. |

Thanks Bill!
Four or five of those are already growing toward Fairfield; an anxious winemaker waits. Thanks Dave, hopefully I'll have time to try those out tonight. If I can I will hammer out the melody/interludes. It won't be identical, probably not veryclose (so I don't feel I'm violating any copyright), but it will be playable. What I'd like to say is I hope OtR gets be big enough that we can buy "The Complete Works for Guitar and Piano" just like my Beatles, Elton John, Doors etc. Garry |

I'm getting season 3 for xmas. Dave Christmas? Who can wait for Christmas? I pre-ordered Season 3 and it came on October 25th, 3 days before release date. Of course I couldn't stay home & watch it that night; I had a ticket for Canal Street. I think I have all the episodes on tape (I may be missing an episode or two from the not-so-great seasons 6 & 7.), and of course Seasons 1-3 on dvd. I made the pilgrimage to Baltimore in 1999 to celebrate the show with other online fans. This year's gathering is this weekend, but I won't be there this time. Baltimore is a fascinating city. Thanks for taking the time to peruse & appreciate the site. -------------------- Jeanne
